How Long Will You Beat Yourself With The Same Old Stick

Recently, I find myself surrounded by people who seem to enjoy venting about the same thing every time that I see them.  We all have those moments where it’s just natural to have a “Bitch Session” but the intention should be to move forward, however they stay planted in the same place with no resolution.  My grandmother said, “that’s like the engine runnin’ but nobody’s driving.”

Many people think that venting helps ease our worries , but it really makes negative feelings worse, unless you are willing to truly step back and look at them with an honesty and truth that allows you to deal with it and then pick a new direction.

So, don’t keep rehashing; Move On!  There should be a beginning and ending to everything, if not, you’re basically just treading water which is fine if you’re becoming a certified lifeguard.  I’m just sayin…..

Ya’ll come back….

I dont want to be a lifeguard!! Its one of the hardest things not to do…it takes alot of work to move on and not to let the same things (especially things we cant change!) bug you and stay with you. And you are so right! Talking about it, whatever it is, over and over just gives it energy. If you shut up and bury it…it dies!!!

Left Coast…I couldn’t agree with you more. As a Health Care Provider, we actually encourage venting. It’s a form of purging and cleansing of toxic matter, if you will. HOWEVER, if the individual continues to “Tread Water”….getting no where with his/her problem(s), constantly rehashing, the health care provider needs to consider referring that individual for FURTHER/DEEPER HELP! Some just can’t seem to find the door.

    • Thanks for your comment and for reading my blog. There are so many people in the world today that need some level of intervention or profeasional help. Here’s hoping that our society at some point realizes that alot of the issues that we face are directly related to the mental health/well-being of people. We need to care as much about human being as we do about material things. JUST SAYIN….
